Resume Writing

pic is from here. Thanks!

So I've been updating my resume lately for proper documenting purposes only (yeah right! =p). And I came across a number of really effective tips that I liked from InsideTech. Here are the tips they pointed out.

1. The One-Page-Resume Rule is a big mistake

We all heard about this rule already. Actually, I myself tried to fit all information in one page some time before. I ended up still having a 3-page one. Too much precious info that aren't worth editing out. According to the tip given, Yes, we do need to be concise with the details but please take note that precise is not equal to 'force everything into one page'. :)

2. You attach it to your email as a Word document

I am sooo guilty of this. Apparently, the more appropriate way is to have it submitted in PDF format. This way, it won't be easily editable. And it looks neater as well. The biggest plus point is that whatever formatting you did to your document will be reflected correctly and exactly the way you intended it to be. Which reminds me that I should download a PDF converter. :)

3. You list every job you’ve ever had in chronological order

I thought this was a given but apparently not anymore nowadays. I was always curious as to why some job-seeking sites (monster, jobsdb, jobstreet) allow you to upload more than 1 resume... So this is why. You can edit your resume based on the position you're targeting. For example, if you've been a developer in one company and a tester on another then of course you'll be listing down different skillsets. What you need are two versions of your resume to highlight the skillset related to the job you're applying for. Sounds reasonable enough right? But of course, never ever list down skillsets you really aren't familiar with, unless you wanna be grilled in your interview with questions you really don't have answers for. :)

So what are we waiting for? Let's update update update. :)

tama yung number 3. whatever information you put in your resume should be relevant to the position you are applying for. tanggalin mo na yung di naman related.

i remember my first ever resume, dun sa skill, nakalagay, "skilled in driving"...and it was a bank i was applying to. siguro sabi nung HR, "Hello...ano naman ang idradrive mo dito sa banko?" he! he!

That's right, dapat customized yung CV depende sa position na inaapply-an. =)

It's been ages since I've revised my resume. I wonder what I'd put in now after seven years?!
Great tips. Hunting for greener pastures?

I convert mine to PDF too. But if you don't have a converter, you can still use MS Word but password-protect it. :-)

Ba-Bye Ate

Today was quite a sad day for our family. For a very close-knit family, goodbyes are really extra difficult to say . Especially if the one leaving will be miles and seas away. My Ate (with her husband) left this morning for the US. They'll be starting their new life there. She already has work so I don't need to worry about that anyway, and I'm sure that she'll definitely do well. My parents were really sad... maybe it's the thought of being "away" from her. Tipong you have to hop on a plane pa just to be able to get to her. The whole family has US visa naman , we can go there anytime (as long as we have the money I guess :p) Yes, I cried a lot as well... and I guess it's because of all the bilins I got from her. The one that stuck the most " Ikaw na bahala dito ha.. Alagaan mo sila Mama and Papa. Si Ivan ha... Wag mo silang pabayaan. " My nephew on the other hand was a different story... he was eager to go home already when we got to NAIA.

Chuper Excited!

2 weeks to go.. then I'll be painting HongKong and Macau red with my Sanity Keepers... Any suggestions on where to go to? Beside from the usual night market, HK Disneyland and Ocean Park. Any cheap foodtrip areas? Plus, it's Arvic's first time in HongKong too. So I'm extra excited for him too. Let the countdown begin!I am sooooo excited already! :) My bday's coming up in more or less 2 weeks also. Yey! Turning 25 and excited about it! :D Planning to spend the weekend before my actual bday with the whole family somewhere. Let's see... :) ======= Yesterday, had a massage at TonTon's again. I loved it! Just what I needed. I love that place.. Not too crowded. And not too expensive too! :) ======= Work starts again tomorrow. Oh well.... positive side? At least I'll have enough moolah to enjoy HongKong. Thank you work! :P CARPE DIEM! I'm out.

Boracay '09 : R & R

Long overdue Bora post. :P Before Summer actually ends.. I just felt that I should get my Bora series of posts over and done with.:) It was my second time in Boracay... and I can honestly say that this was the first time that I actually enjoyed the beach and the sand. :) My first trip there was last year and the itinerary for the whole stay was planned already, so it was mostly activities like ATV, island hopping, snorkeling. This year, it was mostly swimming and sitting around. Complete relaxation. :) The whole group stayed at SUR. A really neat resort located in Station 1. A white building, pretty and cozy huts, nice view and a really nice beach front... *Sigh*.. Take me back? I suddenly miss the sun, sand and free time. CARPE DIEM! I'm out.
